Glossary / Definition

Conversion.

The completion of a desired action by a user, such as making a purchase or signing up for a service.

A conversion is any desired action taken by a user that is valuable to the merchant. In affiliate marketing, common conversions include sales, leads, downloads, registrations, trial sign-ups, and subscription activations.

Tracking conversions is essential for measuring the success of marketing efforts and calculating affiliate commissions. Affiliates focus on optimizing strategies to increase conversion rates while maintaining traffic quality and user satisfaction.

Conversion optimization involves analyzing user behavior, testing different approaches, improving user experience, and addressing barriers to conversion. In SaaS environments, conversions often involve multiple steps from initial interest through trial activation to paid subscription.
