Glossary / Definition

Opt-in.

When a user gives permission to receive marketing communications, such as emails.

Opt-in ensures that users have consented to receive promotional messages, complying with regulations like GDPR, CAN-SPAM, and other privacy laws. Affiliates collect opt-ins to build email lists for marketing purposes.

An opt-in audience is more engaged and likely to convert because they have specifically requested to receive communications. Respecting user preferences and providing value enhances reputation and marketing effectiveness.

Opt-in best practices include clear consent mechanisms, privacy policy disclosure, easy unsubscribe options, and valuable content that justifies the subscription. Double opt-in processes can improve list quality and compliance.
